Hey guys! So many of my followers have been asking me about this whole Juicing craze that I’m constantly posting about on my IG (@wcoachnadiak). Well for starters the benefits of juicing and blending are extraordinary and serve multiple purposes. It is the cheapest form of preventative medicine. What I want to post about today is about the misinformation some people are receiving. Some have the intention of juicing but are blending or “smoothieng” their fruits and veggies with the impression that it reaps the same results or purpose. Don’t be mistaken as JUICING and BLENDING/SMOOTHIES are two very different processes. They are both the healthier choice don’t get me wrong but the two are different. Let’s talk about why:
Juicing is the extraction of the juice from fruits and veggies Pros:
You can use more ingredients in one juice.
You can usually throw the entire piece of fruit/ vegetable in the juicer without having to peel and remove pits. (research which are good to do this with and which are not)
The content of the juice is very concentrated because you are only getting the vitamins, minerals phytonutrients and antioxidants.
All of the above goes directly into your bloodstream. With Blending or eating you have to digest the food first to reap this benefit.
Easier to make delicious combos
Faster to make
Very liquid and smooth to drink
Cons:You have to drink the juice right away because of nutrient oxidation.
Not very filling and cannot supplement a meal
Need more ingredients and this can be costly
Fiber is removed and discarded to the side as a waste (unless used for otherwise)
Harder to clean up
Blending liquefies and blends the whole fruit or vegetable.
Fewer ingredients can be used so it’s less costly
The body absorbs the sugar slowly
The body absorbs the fiber and other nutrients found in the pul
Can be stored for longer. Usually 3 days.
Can supplement a meal because it is more filling
Easy to clean up
Better if intention is to add protein, yogurt, flax oil, or chia seeds
Cons:Very few ingredients so you can’t “bulk up” on fruits and veggies
Skins and pits must be removed
Water sometimes needed because consistency to thick
Harder to make delicious combos
Takes longer to drink so slower absorption of nutrients
So as you can see the two are very different. I prefer juicing (my personal choice) but I have seen great results from smoothies whether it’s as a meal replacement or snack. Either way there is an advantage to drinking your fruits and vegetables. One commonality is that most people do not chew their food in a manner fast enough for the body to use all the nutrients efficiently. Drinking them speeds up that process. It’s hard to get all of our daily servings of fruits and veggies in and what better way then to drink em all in bulk! Happy Friday
Hello my beautiful, open minded, wellness way’ers! I wanted to post about something I’ve been asking you to explore …. YOURSELF. If you do not have 5-10 minutes to spare where you can disengage yourself from the entire world then I urge you to STOP READING and read this when you have some time. After all, first recipient of this well spent time is YOU 🙂
I think it’s fair to say we all engage in debilitating behaviors that we are aware of and some that… well we may not be so aware of. Hey, if something is out of sight it’s out of mind right? Perhaps there are habits you think are okay, and they are so miniscule you don’t even acknowledge them, but if changed they can make a heck of a difference. For example let’s take a look at that person (we all have one) who has much to say but NEVER listens. He/she is known for giving great advice and is very knowledgeable and you really do benefit from their vocal sharing yet they do not believe there is room to learn more about what they already know. They think their intellectual inventory on a specific topic is full. Ever stop and think about how much potential this person has and that if they would just open their mind and shut the heck up they would achieve ultimate success? A positive trait such as this one is hindering to their growth. Some behaviors/habits (such as this example) may have even been taught to you. When you were born and able to reason you were pretty much told how to behave and what to believe. As children your parents guided you regarding proper behavior. You were sternly told “NO!” when you would do anything that was “wrong” or if it put you in harm’s way. You were taught how to treat others. You could’ve been taught poor eating habits, or that working 60 hours a week is what is right because you are to provide for your family. Expectations may have been placed upon you and some of you are still internally bound to the guilt trips if you do no to fulfill those expectations. Aside from “what comes naturally” there are just plain old habits and behaviors you engage in when know you shouldn’t. Ex: smoking, eating unhealthy foods, not excercising. The list of handicap-like behaviors goes on.
Take some comfort in knowing you are not ALONE and that anything you are unhappy about doing can stop, however it does start with you. It’s crucial and essential that you get to know these bad habits and behaviors. You can’t eliminate or work on them if you don’t identify them and evaluate the real impact they have on your present day life. When you look at the impact they have on your life assess what your life would be like if you didn’t engage in some of these habits/behaviors. What would be different? What would be better?
So here’s where I need you to disconnect from the world! I want you to take the next 5-10 minutes to sit down close your eyes and envision an ideal and perfect life for yourself. Really think about it and envision it. Please do not focus on anything else. When you are finished WRITE IT DOWN. Include as much detail as you can. If you are sipping a pina colada in Sandro Pe then write it down! Now include the obstacles YOU create and are responsible for. For example if you write down money as an obstacle you MUST include what behaviors or perspectives you can change to make more money. What investments do you need to make in yourself to get there? What attitudes and negative ideologies must you get rid of? How can growth in one of the three categories: mind, body, spirit get you there. Growth intellectually, spiritually nutritionally and physically is what leads to our personal progress and being in tune with the three is what leads to our wellness. Wellness is what contributes to that internal drive we NEED to achieve what we ultimately want… the life we ultimately want. I welcome you to challenge this because it would be an investment in yourself. Please do not underestimate the importance of growth in all categories! I’m not going to sit here and say that it will lead to your demise but it will stunt and stop you from accepting yourself fully and achieving optimal fulfillment and most importantly happiness in the present state of your life.
